Klein Intermediate saw a surge of strategic excitement this month as 24 students signed up to compete in the campus chess tournament—one of the largest turnouts the school has had in years. The event highlighted what many teachers and students are already noticing: chess is making a strong comeback.
Throughout the tournament, students showed impressive focus, sportsmanship, and genuine enthusiasm for the game. Many participants shared that they’ve been practicing during lunch, after school, and even at home as chess continues to grow in popularity across the campus.
To support this renewed interest, the Klein Intermediate library now features dedicated chess stations with boards available for students to use before school, during lunch, and after classes. These open‑play opportunities have quickly become a favorite hangout for students eager to sharpen their skills.
In an exciting boost for young players, ChessKid.com generously provided 50 free Gold Memberships to Klein Intermediate students. These memberships give students access to lessons, puzzles, and online matches—helping them continue improving long after the tournament ended.
With growing participation, new resources, and a campus full of motivated players, chess at Klein Intermediate is not just back—it’s thriving.
